Westerlaken Foundation partners with Bali Kids Foundation, NEBA Foundation, and Wilde Ganzen Foundation to raise HIV/AIDS awareness through our program that aims to educate every student in Bali to understand the dangers of HIV and to prevent the spread of HIV. This program also hopes to remove the stigma from people living with HIV and also people around them by providing accurate information about the disease.
In this program, we employ an experienced doctor and nurse who explain the information about HIV/AIDS, and also provide a general medical check ups. We distribute illustrated books to attract the attention of primary and junior high school students in obtaining information on HIV/AIDS, meanwhile for the high school students we provide an additional powerpoint presentation. After the education session, we deliver a general medical check up including a check up for vital signs, height, weight, eyes, and any additional health assessments.
In December 2022, we visited 4 schools and 2 childrens communities in Bali. Which were Madya Widya Dharma Sastra Junior High School, Tabanan Junior High School, Kesiman 3 Elementary School, Santa Maria Christian Elementary School, Merah Putih Study Class Community, and Social Project Bali Community.
On Tuesday (December 6th 2022), we visited Madya Widya Dharma Sastra Junior High School which is located in Bangli. 167 Students were educated and given medical check ups. From the medical check up result, we found 63 students with medical conditions and 104 Students with good health condition.
Two days after, on Thursday (December 8th 2022) we drove off to Tabanan to visit Tabanan 6 Junior High School. There were 33 Students that we educated and gave medical check ups. From the medical check ups, we found 16 Students with medical conditions and 17 students with good health condition.
We also visited Kesiman 3 Elementary School in Denpasar for two days. There were 71 students that we educated and gave medical check ups. From the medical check up result, we found 39 Students with medical conditions and 32 students with good health conditions.
On Wednesday (December 14th 2022), the Mobile Clinic drove off to Gianyar to visit Santa Maria Christian Elementary School. There were 80 students that we educated and gave medical check ups. From the medical check up result, we found 30 Students with medical conditions and 50 students with good health condition.
5 days after, on Monday (December 19th 2022) we visited Merah Putih Study Class Community in Karangasem. There were 6 Students that we educated and gave medical check usp. From the medical check up result, we found 6 students with medical conditions and none of the students had a good health condition.
On Friday (December 30th 2022) we drove off to Tabanan to visit Social Project Bali Community. There were 30 students that we educated and gave medical check up. From the medical check up result, we found none of the students with medical conditions.
We did curative action for all of the students with medical conditions. The doctor gave medicine for treatment and gave medical advice. The action aims to increase the children health level.
Yayasan Bali Bersih will continue the efforts and remains committed to running this program to provide education about HIV/AIDS and also health services to every school especially in Bali. We hope that as they move into adolescence and higher education, they will understand the dangers of HIV/AIDS and become wiser in responding to people that are infected by HIV. They also get informed about how to prevent HIV/AIDS. Through this program, we also expect to stop the increase of people infected by HIV/AIDS, especially in Indonesia, to improve the quality of life for each individual.
