Westerlaken Foundation is a non-profit organization based in the Netherlands that was established in 2018. It serves as a continuation of the Foundation soul surf project Bali, which was founded in 2007 by Dr. Rodney Westerlaken.

 

The primary areas of focus for the Westerlaken Foundation include the protection of human and children's rights, the preservation of the marine environment, the provision of emergency relief, and the management of cultural heritage issues. By actively engaging in these areas, the foundation aims to make a positive impact on society and address critical challenges facing our world today.

Yayasan Westerlaken Alliance Indonesia is an Indonesian non-profit organization that was established in 2015. It serves as the local partner for Westerlaken Foundation, founded by Dr. Rodney Westerlaken. Yayasan Westerlaken Alliance Indonesia operates under the guidance of a dedicated Indonesian board.

 

As a trusted partner, Yayasan Westerlaken Alliance Indonesia implements programs that are identified and funded by Westerlaken Foundation. By executing these programs, the organization plays a crucial role in advancing the mission and objectives of the foundation, thereby contributing to the betterment of communities and initiatives in Indonesia.

Since 2022, Westerlaken Foundation/Yayasan Westerlaken Alliance Indonesia has established and oversees its own children's fund. This fund is dedicated to providing support for children and their families who are in need, with a focus on prevention, reunification, education, and empowerment. Through the children's fund, the foundation aims to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable children, equipping them with the necessary resources and opportunities for a brighter future.

In 2022, Westerlaken Foundation/Yayasan Westerlaken Alliance Indonesia initiated the Stop Orphanages campaign, dedicated to advocating for children's rights in alignment with Indonesian law and international agreements set forth by the United Nations. Through this campaign, the foundation seeks to raise awareness about the negative impact of orphanages on children's well-being and promote alternative, family-based care solutions that prioritize the best interests of the child. By actively engaging in this campaign, the foundation aims to drive positive change and ensure the protection and fulfilment of children's rights in Indonesia.

In 2020, Bali NGO & Associates emerged as a grassroots organization formed by multiple Bali-based NGOs with the objective of addressing the challenges posed by the COVID-19 crisis. Their efforts primarily focused on facilitating information sharing, establishing shared databases, and promoting collaborative discussions. Following a period of dormancy, the Bali NGO & Associates program has now been integrated into the portfolio of Yayasan Westerlaken Alliance Indonesia as of 2023. This integration signifies a strategic move to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of the program, allowing it to align more closely with the overall mission and goals of Yayasan Westerlaken Alliance Indonesia.

Westerlaken Relief Goods is a social enterprise operating as an Indonesian limited liability company (PT PMA) with foreign investment. It maintains a close affiliation with the Westerlaken Foundation (NL) and Yayasan Westerlaken Alliance Indonesia (IND).

 

It is important to note that Westerlaken Relief Goods is privately funded, and no foundation funds have been utilized in the establishment of this social enterprise. This distinction ensures that the social enterprise operates independently and relies on private sources of funding to carry out its activities.
